Birthday of Humanae Vitae

Today we wish Humanae Vitae a happy birthday as we note how, after 54 years, it still stirs controversy, even among the hierarchy of Holy Mother Church. 

In 1994, Pope Saint John Paul II founded the Pontifical Academy for Life to pursue the interdisciplinary study and defense of human life in all its stages. 

In the past five years, however, the Academy has allowed its pro-life mission to fester while it entertains spurious fancies that question the fundamental teaching of the Church about life, the family, and children.  

Last week PRI President Steven Mosher observed that he was “not aware of a single robust defense of traditional sexual morality in recent years from the Vatican. Rather, all the energy seems to be in the direction of compromising with the world’s increasing insanity where human sexuality is concerned.”
